100-Day Countdown to Start of SEA Games in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: On 25 January 2023, Cambodia will hold a 100-day countdown to the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and the ASEAN Para Games, due to begin in May.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for nearly 7,000 students of the Cambodian University for Specialties (CUS), held at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center on Monday, 23 January, Prime Minister Hun Sen reminded everyone that 25 January marks the start of the national 100-day countdown to the SEA Games.

According to the Prime Minister, Cambodia will strive to ensure that the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games, which will be held in May and June, are organized in a safe and enjoyable manner for all visitors in attendance.

He said, it is not only winning medals that is important, “but also being a responsible host and ensuring the security of international athletes and leaders, as well as ensuring their time in Cambodia is enjoyable.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted that His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni will be going to Angkor Wat to light the official SEA Games torch at on 21 March 2023.

Cambodia has utilized a budget of more than IS $100 million to prepare for, and host, the 2023 SEA Games.
